Yesterday vs Today

My wife is a neophyte when it comes to the World Wide Web. She doesn’t use a computer, email, or anything associated with it.
She relies, however lightly, on the MSM.
So, while the news arrives a bit later, she does get caught up in the ’sky is falling’ way that FOX and the print media spin their news to fit the Conservative views.
She was asking me if what could have been done in the past to have prevented the wars, financial problems, oil prices, etc.
My honest response was that the politicians and the voters then and now, have lost sight of history.
There is very little, in the way of problems we face today, that could have been prevented if everyone took a few minutes each day to review history, and the patterns in war and economics that we are seemingly cursed to repeat.
With the WWW, we are able, at a glance to spot trends in all of the problem areas. But, people are more concerned with their textting or My Space page to take the time to learn something.
And. God Forbid, the schools teach something other than their candy or gourmet food drives.

Basically, we are calling the business people, stock market and politicians to act far better than we are ourselves.
How many people out there are worried about where they are going to get money for the next holiday while their kid is running a meth lab in the basement?

Wanna know why there are no heroes left? It’s because no one has the guts to become the first to stick their neck out.
Heroes in the past may have been on the movie screen, but they were big as life. People listened to them when ever they had something to say.
I personally never liked John Wayne, but when he spoke, people listened and followed.

It’s pretty bad when you can’t depend on Fireman ‘cause 1 out of 5 volunteers, the backbone of most communities are pyromaniacs.
Can’t depend on Police. They see the money to be made in illegal weapons and drugs and wonder why they don’t get paid more to possibly, get killed.
Politicians, once farmers and small business people, your neighbors, are distant, uncaring, and only voice their allegiance to those who throw the most money at them to be a shill for their causes.

It was doom and gloom in 1929.
It was doom and gloom in 1987.
And it’s doom and gloom now.

And what will we learn from this?

Go talk amongst yourselves.
